Pinus pinea
The original origins of pinus pinea are Portugal, Spain and North Africa (when the climate was once wetter). It has been cultivated systematically for 6,000 years for its edible seeds, which have been traded by humans since ancient times. It has acclimatized throughout the Mediterranean region for so long that it is considered native to the places where it grows, while very recently (since 1700) it has been introduced to countries with a Mediterranean climate. So far it has acclimatized to South Africa, California, Australia and Western Europe.
